The Star Mountain Association supports the work of the Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center SMRC in Palestine. The focus was on expanding the work to other regions of Palestine. The work began in 2021 with a therapy program in Burqin with the substantial financial participation of congregations from the church district of Vlotho and the Evangelical Church of Westphalia. The therapy program consisted of speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The Star Mountain Association was founded in 2022 to professionalize and consolidate this work.

Due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas since October 2023, the situation in the West Bank became so uncertain that the Star Mountain branch in Burqin had to be closed at the end of 2023. Since then, the Star Mountain Association has been supporting the special school on the Sternberg.

Birthday Celebration in the School

The Star Mountain Association's work in Burqin began in March 2021. Together with the municipality, rooms for the Burqin Rehabilitation Center BRC therapy center were given in a boy's school. It soon became clear that the rooms were not suitable in the long term. After a lengthy search, an apartment was rented and furnished for the therapies in nearby Jenin in February 2023. Due to the increasing violence between Israeli soldiers and settlers and Palestinians, public life in the West Bank became increasingly unsafe. Fewer and fewer clients were able/willing to reach the BRC. The situation came to a dramatic head with the Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza in October 2023. Due to these circumstances, the Star Mountain Association was forced to give up its work in Burqin/Jenin for the time being.
